# cat /etc/xinetd.d/rsync

  # default: off
  # description: The rsync server is a good addition to an ftp server, as it \
  #       allows crc checksumming etc.
  service rsync
  {
  #       disable = yes
          socket_type     = stream
          wait            = no
          user            = root
          server          = /usr/bin/rsync
          server_args     = --daemon
          log_on_failure  += USERID
  }
For backups dumps using rsync deamon, will need to specify UID = root. Otherwise any files not readable by world will generate a insufficient privledges error (backup will continue, files with non-world readble privledges will be skipped).
# cat /etc/rsyncd.conf

  log file = /var/log/rsync.log

# rsync rsync://cp2.scalix.com/

  backups         Backup patrol
The following script demonstrates some common options to use with rsync. -v lists filenames as they are processed. -r recurse directories on the source host and transfer files to destination host. Note: files and folders on destination host not on the source host file be left alone. --bwlimit=64 transfer rate (KBytes/sec) not to exceed. --delete files on source host that are no longer present will be removed from destination host (must be used with -r). --exclude=old files on source host to ignore.
